Polylactic acid (Sculptra)
Polylactic acid – Sculptra has proven to be a real youth elixir. This safe and entirely biodegradable preparation stimulates the production of collagen in the skin, making it more firm and young looking. Sculptra is dedicated for both women and men around 35 years of age as well as for older patients. (In younger persons, it can be used prophylactically.) Increase in the skin density is visible usually after one treatment. Giving excellent results, Sculptra is a noninvasive method for the correction of face oval and sagging cheeks, enhancement of skin firmness, cheek augmentation, nasolabial folds and Marionette lines correction. It is also very effective in improving the firmness of the skin in other areas of the body, especially in the neck, hands, arms and belly (e.g. after pregnancy or weight loss). Polylactic acid preparation, in the form of suspension, is injected in small amounts into the dermis layer, using a syringe with a very fine needle.
In order to reduce the pain associated with multiple puncture, local anesthetic and cooling ice compresses are used.
The effects of Sculptra are not immediately visible. Results appear gradually during several weeks, so that the final effect is very natural, without an artificial stretching. Results of the treatment include: increased density and elasticity of the skin, wrinkles and furrows shallowing and improved facial contour. To achieve satisfactory effects, usually a series of 2-4 injection sessions is required (depending on the stage of the aging process), at intervals of six weeks or longer. On average, the final effect lasts for two years.
